Hopper’s Game: FLY WARS
As the Hoppers NFT and Game launches are around the corner, we would like to share more insight about the game’s competitive and dynamic nature. In this article, we will present a more detailed overview of the game mechanics, illustrate some key concepts and go over some of the strategies which can be used to maximize $FLY earnings.
This will also serve as an article to better illustrate that getting lucky minting Hoppers with strong Stats doesn’t mean a player can sit back and earn great yields but actually requires careful evaluation of the opportunities and a strong strategy.
Game mechanics
Hoppers NFTs are amazing pieces of art on their own, but also come with on-chain Stats for each of their 5 Attributes: Strength, Vitality, Intelligence, Agility, and Fertility. Stats range from 1 to 10, and play an important role for in-game success.
Stats are randomly assigned during the minting process. The higher each Attribute’s Stat is, the more valuable the Hopper is. By reaching Level 100, Hoppers can Rebirth back to Level 1 and increase each of their Attribute’s Stats by +1.
Hoppers’ main purpose is to hunt $FLY by taking on Adventures. Hoppers Stats and Level will determine their success at earning $FLY, and scale differently with each Adventure. This means some Adventures will be more rewarding for a Hopper with certain Stats compared to others. There are also some high level Adventures that require a minimum Stat for multiple Attributes in order for Hoppers to enter the Adventure (See white paper for details).
The fundamental mechanics are simple, and when combined with advanced mechanics makes Hopper’s Game quite strategic and fun to play. Let’s dive into some of these progressive mechanics to understand the role they play in optimizing strategies to maximize earnings.
$FLY
$FLY is the main currency in Hopper’s game. $FLY is needed for basically everything from levelling up to breeding, thus the main goal of the game is to earn $FLY. Players can farm $FLY by simply sending their Hopper to one of the Adventures which have a fixed daily $FLY emission, as well as a bonus emission based on $veFLY usage, which will be explained later on.
The fixed $FLY emissions are predetermined for each Adventure and will not change until new Adventures are added in the future. As mentioned, each Adventure’s $FLY emission is shared by the Hoppers participating in it, based on the Hoppers Stats and Level.
This is the first aspect of the so-called Fly Wars; you are battling against Hoppers on the same Adventure; the strongest Hoppers (highest Stats and Level) will get the lion’s share. This means that although a Hopper has great Stats, they must continue to Level up to stay competitive, as both Level and Stats impact $FLY yields. Naturally, the race is on to Level Up Hoppers in order to stay competitive and yield the most $FLY.
Hoppers can only earn up to a certain amount of $FLY at each Level before needing to Level Up to continue earning. This mechanic forces the competition among Hoppers to evolve while preventing Hoppers from squatting and printing $FLY, and reduces inflation as all $FLY that Hoppers yield beyond their max cap is burned!
Hoppers also burn $FLY to enter the Breeding Adventure, a 24 hour hunt to acquire a Tadpole NFT. The Hoppers with stronger Fertility Stats are the ones most likely to return with these fantastic looking Tadpole NFTs which have they’re own rarity ranking system and are tradable on Hoppers native marketplace. Tadpoles NFTs will be used for future ideations of Hoppers Game coming later.
Additionally, $FLY staking (see $veFLY below) and using the Hopper naming service are additional utilities that leverage burn mechanisms to keep inflation in control.
As you can see, Hoppers Game is by no means a “lean back and farm” scheme that requires engagement to avoid burning $FLY unnecessarily, and a good farming strategy to strategically stake Hoppers to get optimal $FLY yields.
$veFLY
After explaining the basic $FLY farming mechanics, let’s continue with a more advanced concept: $veFLY. As mentioned above, there is a bonus FLY allocation to each adventure which is determined by a daily voting. The votes, as you might have already guessed, are casted with $veFLY.
Players get a fixed amount of $veFLY per second for every $FLY that is staked. Players use $veFLY earnings to vote which Adventures should have an increased percentage of the daily Bonus $FLY allocation. Players who unstake any amount of $FLY will lose all of the accrued $veFLY, and existing votes in place are removed. Sound familiar? You may have seen similar setups in some popular DeFi projects, so if you’re already thriving in one of them, you may do well in Hoppers Game, too.
Each Adventure’s Bonus allocation will be only distributed to the Hoppers who staked $veFLY on the Adventures they’re on. This introduces a second aspect of $FLY Wars: Hoppers are competing for the Bonus allocation against other $veFLY users on the same Adventure. The share of Hoppers’ Bonus Allocation is respective to their Hopper’s Level, Stats and total $veFLY staked compared to the other Hoppers staking $veFLY on that Adventure.
There is one caveat here: You can not blindly ape $veFLY into an Adventure and assume you will get the lion’s share of the Bonus Allocation just because you have used a lot of $veFLY. Without getting too much into the maths behind it, a balanced approach to $veFLY with other scaling factors (Level and Stats) will maximise your earnings from the Bonus Allocation. This way, Hoppers with great Stats and higher Levels don’t yield a large portion of the Bonus Emission simply by staking a small amount of $veFLY.
To sum up, you will have to come up with a good strategy to maximize your bonus $FLY earnings. You must carefully choose which Adventures to stake your $veFLY for casting your vote on which Adventures should receive the largest portion of the Bonus Allocation, and rotate your Hoppers accordingly.
Conclusion
The concepts explained above highlight the innovative game logic Hoppers is bringing to Avalanche GameFi.
By positioning players in situations where they are: forced to Level up; allowed to breed; enabled improve their Stat; encouraged to leverage $FLY staking to earn a portion of the Bonus Allocation with $veFLY; and challenged to decide when to sell $FLY for some passive income; Hoppers Game is a unique spin on traditional Play to Earn concepts.

TLDR version
- You have a Hopper NFT
- You stake your Hopper to on an Adventure to earn $FLY from the Daily Emission
- Your share of the fixed $FLY emission of an Adventure depends on your Hoppers’ Level and Attribute’s Stats compared to the other Hoppers on that Adventure
- You use $FLY to level up
- You use $FLY to stake Hoppers on Breeding Adventure and maybe get a Tadpole NFT
- You use $FLY to name your Hoppers
- You Stake $FLY acquire $veFLY
- You use $veFLY to acquire $FLY form the daily Bonus Allocation
- You unstake your $FLY, you will lose your $veFLY and any existing votes
